Our teachers and staff have created a well-balanced program that fosters the growth and development of each child. Weekly classes in arts, music, physical education, and Spanish allow the students to express individual talents. We have many on-site educational visits from the community designed to expand the children's awareness of the world around them. Our curriculum encompasses some very important goals in the learning process, encouraging the children to maximize on their creativity. A low student-teacher ratio provides for more individualized instruction. Most importantly, we cater to the needs of the children, carefully tending to their hearts, minds and souls.   ACADEMY CURRICULUM
In our preschool classrooms, we offer a developmentally age and stage appropriate curriculum with a variety of hands-on activities in order to teach to all of the learning styles -- visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic.

The preschool curriculum is designed with some very important goals in mind. First the curriculum needed to encompass the following components:

  • To teach to multi-levels within the same class - challenging and stimulating all.
  • To teach to all learning styles - auditory, visual, tactile and kinesthetic.
  • To be non-sexist in our format
  • To present a multicultural program by offering experiences that draw from many cultures in our world.
  • To teach to the nature of the young child.

Second, our curriculum needed to fulfill the school's philosophy, allowing for maximum creativity on the part of our staff, as well as the children. We especially wanted children to leave Apple Tree with two tools to carry with them throughout their formal education. One tool is the attitude that all discovery/learning is exciting and fun; the other tool is a positive "can-do" attitude that translates into healthy self-esteem. These tools form the foundation for success in school.

about safety and firemen
Our Academy program at Apple Tree provides a natural extension of our preschool programs. Our academy teachers are highly qualified, certified, classroom instructors who strive to create an exciting and challenging educational program for students of all ability levels.

While our academic curriculum emphasizes the basic, core-subject areas, our teachers are encouraged to use their talents and creativity to expand the curriculum to fit the needs and learning styles of each student. Texts are linked sequentially from kindergarten to first grade so that students may build upon basic skills and move toward more advanced, higher learning activities. Supplemental materials are also provided for both enrichment and skills practice. Thematic units in science, health, and social studies complete a strong academic curriculum and coordinate with the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Since the inception of the academy program, our teachers and staff have endeavored to create a quality, well-balanced program that fosters the growth and development of each child. We also encourage the parents to take an active role in their child's education.
